Mili Hernandez may not have gotten to play in her tournament’s finals — but getting a shoutout from two soccer legends is a nice consolation prize!

In case you missed this insane story of discrimination, the Nebraska 8-year-old’s entire team was disqualified from the finals of the girls soccer tournament because organizers couldn’t be convinced Hernandez wasn’t a boy.

The Springfield Soccer Association has since claimed there was a clerical error that listed her as a boy, but the parents provided all the necessary documentation on the day. It was clearly the perception of the judges that kept them from accepting the proof.

Well, it didn’t take long for the chica got some support from the highest level. No, not the Supreme Court! We mean Mia Hamm and Abby Wambach!

Both Olympic gold medalists/FIFA champs reached out to Mili with empowering messages; one even had a special offer! Abby wrote:

Not to be outdone, Abby later recorded a special video message about wanting to meet Mili, whom she called “my new hero.”

Dear Mili Hernandez, you are amazing in every way. Thank you for teaching us how to be brave and shining a light on something so hurtful. If you don’t know, she is my new hero. Her team was disqualified from a tourney cause they thought she was a boy because of a clerical error that wasn’t handled properly.
